How to Use Templates

Everyone is able to preview all the templates on this site. However only registered Desktop Author users can download the templates. Desktop Author users can login by entering their registered email address and CPK into the “Log into My Desktop Author” section at the top of the page.

  1. Select a Category. Click one of the Category headings (eBooks, eBrochure etc) to select a template category, and you will be presented with a number of Sub-Categories. You can go back by using the “Back” button of your browser or clicking the “My Desktop Author” link at the top of the page.
  2. Select a Sub-Category. Click one of the Sub-Category headings to view Templates in that Sub-Category, and you will be presented with a list of Templates. You can go back by using the “Back” button of your browser or clicking the Category link at the top of the page.
  3. If there are more than 10 templates in the Sub-Category, you will see 1-10 11-20 21-30 etc above the templates. Click these numbers to see the other templates in this Sub-Category. For example, 1-10 displays the first 10 templates, while 11-20 displays the next 10 and so on.
  4. Click “Preview Template” to download a preview (DNL) of the template. Click “Preview Template (WEB)” to preview the template on a web page.
  5. If your are not logged in, the words “Login to download template” will appear. Login by entering your registered email address and password (this will initially be set to your CPK).
  6. Click “Download Template” to download the template file. A dialog will appear prompting you to open or save the file. Click “Save” then select a location (eg Desktop) to save the file. The file will be in ZIP format.
  7. Unzip the template file. Double-click on the ZIP file. In Windows XP, click “Extract All Files”. If you are using Winzip, click “Extract”. The template files (DML and Images) will be saved into a new folder.
Using the Templates in Desktop Author
  1. Open the folder containing the template files
  2. Double-click on the DML file. The template file will be opened in Desktop Author. Use the “Previous Page” and “Next Page” buttons to view the pages in the template.
  3. Create a new DML file with the same dimensions as the template (Width and Height are displayed at the bottom of the Desktop Author window)
  4. Create a new page in the DML File. Go to the template file and find the page that you want to use. Click the “Copy Page” button. Go to your new book and paste the page.
